Microsoft Surface Pro 4
Welcome to a laptop battery specialist of the Lenovo Laptop Battery
Sometimes when you’re reviewing something you can get caught up with dozens of talking points. And that’s fine, but often – and especially when you’re comparing one product to another – you sometimes find that everything boils down to one issue. So here we are with the Apple iPad Pro and the Surface Pro 4, and what this boils down to is battery life. And weight.
The big problem with the Surface Pro 4 is its battery. It’s good, but in mixed use it can’t manage anywhere near the amount of time that the iPad Pro can. The life you’ll get depends on the specific Surface you buy, there are Core M3, i5 and i7 models, and each handles power differently. Microsoft claims up to nine hours and Apple says 10 for the iPad. The testing done by most places online puts the Surface battery with like Lenovo IdeaPad Y460 Battery, Lenovo 57Y6440 Battery, Lenovo 121000918 Battery, Lenovo IdeaPad Y650 Battery, Lenovo L08S6T13 Battery, Lenovo IdeaPad Y650A Battery, Lenovo IdeaPad S10 Battery, Lenovo IdeaPad S10E Battery, Lenovo IdeaPad S9 Battery, Lenovo IdeaPad S12 Battery, Lenovo L08S6C21 Battery, Lenovo 45K2176 Batterylife at significantly under the iPads though, in some cases comically lower.
But what, I can hear some ask, about the claim that the Surface Pro 4 can replace your laptop? Well of course it can, it IS a laptop. Sure, it’s arranged differently so that the components are behind the screen, rather than beneath the keyboard, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s a Windows PC. The iPad Pro, on the other hand, can also replace your laptop – I’ve been using it for a month as a laptop, and haven’t actually used a “proper” laptop in that time. But the iPad is aimed at using minimal power while still providing an amazing screen and plenty of productivity tools.
Devices running iOS and Android are much more able to make the claim of “replacing your laptop” because they tackle things from a different angle. Low power processors with the OS and apps all optimised to run on power sipping hardware. The iPad Pro and Google’s upcoming Pixel C are devices which have much better portability and long battery life without compromising the quality of the experience.
